Welcome to Plettner Kennels

Lynda Plettner, owner of Plettner Kennels, is a 11 time finisher of the Iditarod Sled Dog Race. She came to Alaska after training horses in CA for twenty years. Because of her love of animals, the shortage of horses but abundance of sled dogs, Lynda turned her training skills to the dog world. Her knowledge, patience, and perseverance earned her a very respectable position of finishing twentieth in the 2002 Iditarod.

The 2002 Iditarod was Lynda’s best ever, not only because of receiving the “Most Improved Musher Award”, which moved her from sixty-sixth place in 2001 to twentieth in 2002, but because of receiving the prestigious and most coveted “ Leonhard Seppela Humanitarian Award”. This award is presented by the veterinarians working on the Trail, and is given to the musher with the healthiest, happiest and biggest dog team arriving in Nome. Lynda says that she had “thirteen barking, happy, line pounding dogs at the finish line”. This indeed was her best experience of her mushing career and she is looking forward to many more.

DeNure trains for rookie Iditarod run
Some people toil with their dogs in obscurity for years before becoming a palpable part of the distance mushing community, while others seemingly have a gift of showing up and effortlessly emerging as a fixture, a mover and a shaker. Zoya DeNure is one such musher.Since the former runway model and music promoter's first introduction to sled dogs back in Wisconsin six years ago, DeNure has moved to Alaska, found herself in a relationship with one of the most respected distance drivers in the state  Read more...

Iditarod 2006
Hi Friends,
The end of the “LAST GREAT RACE”, the “IDITAROD” has come again.
I had many adventures getting to the start line this year and on the trail, and I would like to share some of them with you. First, during a sled dog race of 200 miles I was mede-vacked in a helicopter from 100 miles out in the wilderness, to have an emergency operation. With no insurance, I was sure the Iditarod was out of my reach.

Dear Friends and Sponsors
The Klondike 300 miles sled dog race has a winner and the race was very hard. My two trainees will finish today in plenty of time to get their stamp of approval to enter the Iditarod. That means Plettner kennels will have 3 teams in the Iditarod this year.

Ben Valks from Holland, Katrina Pawlaczyk from NY, and your truly Lynda Plettner. You can look at the race times at
